Parent Letter - April Holidays

Dear Parents & Caregivers,

The April school holidays are just around the corner and it will be important that your child continues to practise his/her English daily. A great way to do this is to have your child participate in activities that allows your child to speak English with other children. A ‘play date’ with an English speaking friend is always a good idea. Also, Parnell Trust runs a holiday programme right here at school. More information can be found on this website: www.parnell.org.nz/Parnell-Trust-Children-School-Holiday-Programmes-Intro.htm

There are also a range of other holiday activities on offer throughout Auckland. For example, the Auckland City Council have a range of events taking place in many different locations. More information about dates, locations and cost can be found on their website: www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/EN/newseventsculture/events/Events/Pages/Home.aspx
Some include ‘Gallipoli in Minecraft’ as well as ‘Tales of Tamaki: Stories over Auckland’ at the Auckland Museum -  www.aucklandmuseum.com/whats-on/kids-and-family.

Auckland Libraries also have a range of different activities on offer based on their theme ‘Carnival Masquerade’. All events are free of charge. Below are the dates and times for Parnell Library. www.aucklandlibraries.govt.nz/EN/Events/Events/Pages/aprilschoolholidays2015.aspx

Don’t forget to also have your child keep up with their reading by accessing the Sunshine Online website - www.sunshineonline.com.au  Username: parnellesol        Password: room31

Lastly, for the very young children in our school I have attached an alphabet booklet. This will help your child to practise their handwriting as they continue to learn the name of the letter and the sound each letter makes. A good website to reinforce this is: www.starfall.com

Please feel free to keep in touch with us regarding your child’s progress in English. My email address is: annah@parnell.school.nz or Miss Hastings email is: sarahh@parnell.school.nz

Sincerely,

Anna Hedstrom
